MADCAT is a Limited Liability Company that has been trading for 17 years, based in Nelson NZ, managed and owned by Jill Alexander, a NZ citizen.

I draw, print and decorate textiles and make them into women’s garments and home furnishings to be sold directly to you or through this website. I also buy in ready made T shirts from a supplier based in Auckland (these are not NZ made) which I then print on-site in Nelson. My original artwork can be purchased through this site or from the Arty Gallery in Trafalgar Street, Nelson. My wedding dresses, corsets, men’s formal waistcoats and special occasion dresses are all made to order at my workshop and cannot be purchased from this site. Please either visit the workshop or contact me to discuss.



“Made to measure” is a term for any garment that is not a stock MADCAT size. This includes the length, width or fabric selection.

“Made to order” refers to any ordered garment. It includes stock size and made to measure garments.

“Stock size” this refers to all standard regular size MADCAT garments. Men’s sizes are different to women’s sizes.

“Toile” is a mock up of the garment to test the shape and fit.



MADCAT online orders are constantly monitored by myself during the day NZ time. You can safely leave messages on both my land line and cell phone as I am the only one that listens to them.

All orders are placed into an order book stored by the date the order is placed. Another copy of your order is filed under your first name so that I can refer to your measurements for any further orders. This is a paper based system that only I have access too.

If you want to order by email you will need to pay by internet banking. DO NOT put your Credit Card details on any emails sent to me as this is not secure.

If you want to order by phone I can  process your credit card details after our phone call is over and send your receipt with your garment.



This is acceptable only if you have ordered a stock size MADACT garment, the garment is unworn and complete with swing tags.

If your ordered garment has not left the workshop, no problem, I will repackage your order at no extra cost to you.

If your ordered garment is in transit you will need to wait until it arrives to you. You will need to post the garment back to me at your own cost.  When it arrives back into the MADCAT workshop I will send your preferred skirt to you. I will meet the cost of sending the replacement garment as a sign of goodwill.  Returns are limited to 20 days from posting out the original skirt.



Payment on this site is by Paypal. This is a secure method of payment used by many online shops. You do not need to be a Paypal member to use this service but you do need to have a credit card.

For all internet banking payments please use your first name and the product you are purchasing as a reference e.g. Anne skirt

If you want to pay by credit card you will need to phone me with your card details. DO NOT add your credit card details to any emails you may send me. I do not hold any customer credit card details on file.



All items are packed carefully by me.

MADCAT is not responsible for items lost in the post but I will do my best to find them for you.

PBT courier company has an insurance policy for any parcels they may possibly lose. If you think this is the case please contact me and I will ask them to track it down.



The MADCAT insurance policy does cover all items stored in the Nelson MADCAT workshop.

PBT couriers have their own insurance to cover NZ parcels in transit.

NZ post does not have insurance for international parcels but so far not one has not been lost.



Once I receive your order I will dispatch it to you within 3 days or less, if it is in stock. If it needs to be printed and made I will dispatch it to you within 7 days. If I cannot meet these timelines I will contact you and advise you of a new timeline. If you are unhappy with this or a substitute design or product cannot be agreed on, you may cancel your order and will then receive a full refund. 



If a garment that  you have ordered is is out of stock permanently then you will be informed by email and receive a full refund through PayPal or your credit card company.

Stock size garments ( not sale or reduced items) can be exchanged or you can receive a full refund of the price you paid. All garments must be unworn and complete with swing tags. All returning garments must be sent to MADCAT LTD Founders Heritage park, Atawhai Drive,  Nelson 7010 within 20 working days of when they were purchased.



The contract starts when your order is accepted on this site and ends when you receive your goods. I anticipate a contract should last between 4 and 20 working days as this contract could include postage to the other side of the world. A contract does not last beyond 20 working days. Please contact me if you think this might be a problem e.g. you are on a world tour and do not want your goods sent within this period of time.

If a garment is made to measure including skirts ordered longer or shorter than stock size, you CANNOT amend or cancel your order on line.  Please contact me and I can talk you through your options. These change depending on where I am in the process of making and sending your made to measure skirt. I accept returns due to a change of mind for stock size garments only.



If you are unsure of the colours represented on this website you can request a fabric swatch or more photographs by contacting me. There is no charge for this.  If you do not like your skirt when it arrives please refer to returns policy. A full refund is available for all full priced stock size MADCAT garments if returned to the MADCAT workshop within 20 working days 

MADCAT garments are high quality and made to last. If in the unlikely event of one unravelling through standard use (this does not include if used daily as a uniform) you can return your garment for repair or replacement.  Costs for returning your garment under these conditions will be met by us.

By ordering online you have agreed to the MADCAT terms and conditions at the time of ordering. Terms and conditions may change over time. The website will have the current terms and conditions.



I continually seek to improve my service. If you have any complaints about MADCAT products or services please contact me urgently or at least within 10 working days so that we can work together to ensure a mutually satisfactory resolution.



Your email is entered into the Mail Chimp newsletter programme. If you do not want to receive emails then please unsubscribe. It is an easy to find box at the bottom of your first email. I will not be wasting your time with endless useless emails. I will keep them to the point and above all interesting!

Jill Alexander as the owner of MADCAT owns the intellectual rights related to the drawings, textiles, artwork and photographs of, or on the garments depicted on this site. You are not allowed to reproduce them without my written permission.

I have done everything I consider to be humanly possible to ensure this website is accurate, but neither I nor MADCAT can be totally responsible for every eventuality.
